Colored Illustrations and Non-Colored Ones

Well...seems there IS red along with the charcoal sketchings.

Every other set of pages..

Sweet little books.

I actually taught this story in my Thursday night humanities class....working with inner city moms and elementary aged children.

We had sets of books, newly published...

It was one of our, "What lessons can we learn from these dear animals who/that were being discarded after they were deemed of no value by their masters....?"

Vintage Book Time - Reading to Mary While She's in the Tub

I actually don't read that much to her while she's bathing.
I should.
Just gets so hurried around here on school nights.

I plan to go whole hog doing so in June and July - reading to her one on one.

I adore these precious little books.
Colored pages alternated with non-color pages.

Ever noticed that?
Gotta Google it and see WHY some books are/were illustrated in that manner.

To save ink and keep prices down?

We Prepared These for a Bridal Shower

Aw man.
I just now realize I didn't snap a pic of the end results.
The girls drizzled dark chocolate lines over the white chocolate.
It's was a lovely presentation.

We had to practice to get that skill down pat.

Mary's music teacher is getting married and moving away.
Whaaa.
Sweet, young professional.
Played the piano sometimes on the Praise Team at church.

I am, as Jane Austen so eloquently wrote, "a flower that has lost its bloom".
No bridal showers for me.

I shan't be going on Dr. Phil to whine about, tho.

We're all good!

Besides...I can have all the chocolate dipped strawberries I want.
Hmpf!!

Enjoying Bicycles

We haul these bikes with us to weekend job -
Along with 9 million other things.
Someone gave us a bike rack for 3 bikes...
But we've not figured it out yet.
Watched you tube video.
You name it.
Now we're gonna take it to the bike store for a consult.

Mary's got some hand on the hip action workin' in the photo above...

Em wants us all to ride around town this summer.
She wants an excursion.
Molly, too

Give her a puddle, and she's goin' through it.

Mary's Field Day - I Was Assigned to Face Painting. Me? An Artist? Uhm...no.

I did alright at my task.
I worked slowly.
Didn't want kids to have a hot mess on their faces.

I'll have to practice for next year.
Get a few things I paint really well.
Hearts
Spiders
Snakes
Shooting stars
Lightning bolts
New Orleans Saints logo

I was with other teachers who were painting faces, too.

Good team of folks.

After work we headed home, I
Cut the grass
Weedeated
Headed back out to weekend job

I hope to trim hair off my two pups while I'm out here.
Bathe them.

The girls brought their bicycles to ride all around the grounds and empty parking lots here on the campus where we are.

School is winding down for Mary.
Looking forward to a less hurried lifestyle for a while.

Mom's Hydrangea is Now Planted. Hallelujah!!

Dolls from China

These are little dolls that I bought while in China (1 of 3 times)....
But the 3 that are similar in photo above with all the other dolls -- Robin and Forrest got them for me on their last trip.

I'd missed finding those.
Sold in a shop in Guanzhou...in city that makes New York look like Podunk.
And
Each doll represents the region where my girlies lived (based on the dress of the doll)

I bought these triplets (above) on my last trip.
Had to have 'em!

I don't buy or collect Chinese dolls in the U.S.

I only got these as keepsakes from China as little gifts for the girls.

Well....there is a Chinese baby doll (below) that Emily got as a gift. I took it with me to China when I met her.

Jane and Anna gave her this treasure.

Great memories of presenting sweet Em with her new "baby".

Wonderful Mother's Day

My bouquet of flowers from the girls...

How adorable is this gift?
Homemade with love

Mom went with us to church this morning and joined us for lunch at my house
Along with Cookie and Winston
and
Marsha and Marvin.

The girls and I cleaned all Friday night and Saturday.
I NEED company to come over so I WILL clean.

We Organized
Rearranged
Hauled off
Piled stuff in consignment stack in outside storage shed

The house looks great
But now the carport is a wreck.

Hmpf.
We'll attack that at the beginning of summer.

I stood during praise and worship at church...(with sweet mom next to me)
Tears streaming down my face
** then again - I cry over ketchup commercials **

I couldn't help but think of how much I love my own mother
And
How miraculous it is that I have these 3 amazing daughters in my life

From the other side of the world

From a country with millions and millions of people

And how the Lord led me to them

How their stories came to be

The heartbreak of their circumstances
and
A loving Heavenly Father
Who redeemed the difficult situations for three little girls
And provided a plan
To save and deliver

What a story of redemption
Not that we love Him
But that He first loved us

I have so many people who have helped me on my journey through motherhood - who have sacrificed for me, for us
My family
Friends
Acquaintances

I'm so very appreciative.

What a wonderful day of celebration!

Our Gladiolas - Molly Loves Flowers!

This is one of Namny Carol's vases from way back.
I pulled it out for these beauties.
The girls love flowers -- growing...so they can pick them and place inside for decoration.

Skating on a School Night

This "China Mom" and her daughter celebrated their 5th Gotcha Day.
Mom (Dr. D) is a highly respected department chair and professor at a prestigious private college.
Single mom.

We were invited to join them.
Other folks there, too.
I only knew one of the families.

MiMi, the daughter, is having another surgery on her ear (reconstructive - outer ear).
She was born, I think, totally deaf...but has a BAHA device that allows her to hear sounds.

So...they decided to have a skating party on a school night.
MiMi won't be able to do this for a long while after this next surgery on May 25.

I drove 45 mins to the wrong skating rink.
Ugh.
And I was almost out of gas.
**I know, Mother. Fill it up at 1/2 a tank.**

We finally made it.
The girls skated and had fun.
Mary had been SO excited about the event...all day long.

We know these folks.

Dark photo
Disco lights were on
Great time!

Because we love animals...

I bought this babushka baby holder thingy at our missions consignment event - a few bucks.
They really cost around 40.00.

They're for toting babies around, for mommy bonding, while allowing mom to be hands free.

Had to watch a you tube video to learn how to wear the wrap. Very safe for wee ones.

I bought it to use with Chase - my blind, diabetic poochie baby boy.
I know. Kinda strange to do this.

He lost his sight when diabetes set in.
Sniff.

But jeepers, I'd already had a poochie boy (for 10-ish years) with no eyes....so....I had to now transition into Chase's new world.

Again - sniff.

I've used the baby-wrap a time or two.
The girls got it out and started mommy-ing their cats.

Mercy me.
Too cute.

All critters seem to love being swaddled.

Mary asked me if I'd rock her in the rocking chair and give her some milk in her little cup.
I said, "Sure!"
She danced with glee.

Mary also told me she enjoyed having the
"confuser" on at night.
(Diffuser -- emitting a mist of water and an essential oil)

Or asking me if her "fourth-head" is wet and sweaty after jumping and playing
(Forehead)

And that the butterfly is camouflaged so it won't become prey to the
"pregnant-tor ".
(Predator)
How funny is that one?!

Yup.
We are some kind of entertaining around here, folks!

Passing Time

Cute photo op - Mary's choir sang a song at this event.
Dinner and church symphony

We totally moved in on the decor simply for a picture.

Mary waiting for the kids choir to sing.

I took the big girls for gourmet Popsicles at a local haunt...nifty, cool old building.
Got an early start to celebrating Molly's birthday.

They drank water - while in the old building -  from these paper cups.

Emily asked, "Are these from the old days?"

Yeah.
The good old days!

I'm gonna send them to drink from the garden hose next time.
That's the best!

Molly's Last Day as a 15 Year Old

She's in the kitchen with Emily - baking.
Tomorrow we will all go to school/work...and then celebrate at a Mexican restaurant.
Her call.
Fajitas.

What a precious daughter and sister she is!

Molly's Mums - Thank you Anne!

Dear friend, Anne gifted us with these last summer.

They're called "Vicki mums".
No joke.
How funny.
My name

I think Molly will soon cut these back so they'll spread.
Of course, Anne will advise.

I have to keep yard activities simple.

I worked in our yard from 11:00-3:00 today.
It was necessary.
Cutting, hedging, weed eating
I look at it all as good exercise, fresh air, Vitamin D.

I have to watch my attitude when I'm doing this after a long day at work and getting up at 5:15 -- between homework, feeding kids, and other afternoon responsibilities.

I'm not a fan of bad attitudes or whining.
So -- I just have get over it and move on.

I'm glad I was home on a Saturday to get the work done.

All the girls pitched in - picking up sticks, hauling them into a big pile at the street.
Bagging limbs where I hedged shrubs
Raking pine straw st Nanny Carol's to put in the bed with mums
Picking up sticks at mom's house

While I cut the grass (riding lawn mower...so I'm not slaving away too much)....
Emily cleaned 2 windows inside and out.
Mary cleaned 1 bathroom.
Molly cleaned kitchen and dining room floors.

Family work ethic
Serving together!
