It's Official, I have a Daughter!

Somebody slap me and wipe this grin off of my face!!
It's true. It's true.

TODAY I officially received my referral from China for Mei Xia Ying - soon to be named Emily Meilynn. She's a darling little 7 1/2 year old girl living in Meizhou City/Guangdong Province in The People's Republic of China.

Her new middle name is part of her present name Mei -- pronounced 'May' -- and my middle name -- Lynn. It's a blending of our names and our lives. She was born with congenital ptosis ('toe-sis') which is the medical term for drooping eyelids. I've consulted with several international doctors, and once she makes the transition here in America, I will begin the process to have her eyelids surgically repaired. This is to make sure her vision is not impaired in the future.

Here are a few things I know about her:
1. She's a petite thing and is somewhat shy. My mother jokingly said, 'Oh dear...and she has to fit into OUR family?'
2. She loves helping the nannies at the orphanage with the younger children and babies. What a sweetheart.
3. She is currently in kindergarten. Children in her area do not attend school until they are 7 y/o. I'm envisioning a Learning Center set up in the long hallway at our (not MY...OUR) house. How fun! Leap Frog Learning...here I come!!
4. She speaks Hakka - a dialect of Mandarin Chinese. How will we communicate? As I told one friend's daughter, 'I'll get back with you on that!' Ha.
5. She loves to choose bright, pretty clothes to wear. From someone who loves wearing black 7 days a week, I'm feelin' a change of style comin' on!! Do they make a grown-up Garanimal clothing line?
6. Her favorite toy is a rag doll. Sniff. Sniff.
7. She is loved more than words can ever express. When will I travel to China and meet her/bring her home?

Well, thanks to the Olympics in August, I cannot travel until the falldeerah is over. (WHAT country was in 2nd place to host these dang games? They should've tried harder!) China is restricting travel into the country during the next 2 months, but I'm assuming I'll travel anywhere from September on. That timing is actually perfect because I'm taking classes all summer for my Specialist Degree Mon.-Fri. and working every weekend at the M.S. ($$).

All that said and done, I just want to thank you folks for the words of encouragement, prayers, and pats on the back during this time of waiting. There is a scripture in Hebrews (Message translation) that has been an anchor for my heart: '

He promised, and He meant it!' I knew the Lord would lead me to where I needed to be, and that is where I found my daughter.

Big hugs to all, Vicki'
